ABOUT MARGOT
I have wanted to be a film critic ever since I was 15 and Pauline Kael's review of Blade Runner roused me to ire. (We later came to terms, and I still quote her far too often in my reviews.) I received zero formal education in film, but did obtain an A.B. from Harvard and a Ph.D from U.C. Berkeley in comparative literature. These degrees have not been useful. After stints in more glamorous places, I moved back to my favorite boondocks town and got an editing job at a regional media company, Seven Days", where I was finally offered -- by chance -- the opportunity to review movies. I also cover local film, and hope one day to be the first to report on a Vermont-made movie that takes Sundance by storm. One can dream.
